Melanie Smith, PhD, LMHC

 

Dr. Melanie Smith (she/her) is a seasoned therapist specializing in CBT and related evidence-based treatments. 

Dr. Smith holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision. She has extensive experience and expertise in the treatment of eating disorders including over 16 years at The Renfrew Center, the nation’s first residential treatment program for eating disorders. She is a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist and Approved Consultant (CEDS-C) and is a Certified Therapist & Trainer of the Unified Protocol for the Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders (UP). Special treatment interests include Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), phobias including emetophobia, health-related anxiety, and coping with chronic illness.  

Dr. Smith is passionate about the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based treatments, clinical supervision and clinical training and has presented numerous lectures, workshops and keynote presentations at academic and professional conferences nationally and internationally. She has co-authored publications in peer-reviewed journals and is the co-author of the peer-reviewed treatment manual and patient workbook, The Renfrew Unified Treatment Model for Eating Disorders and Comorbidity published by Oxford University Press.

Additionally, Dr. Smith is an inaugural Board member and Research Chair of the Florida CBT Association. Dr. Smith is also a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT),  the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP), and the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED).
